Based on the average OTR annual miles of 120,000, an average fuel consumption rate of 6.85mpg stated in a report by the Federal Highway Administration ( a division of the Department of Transportation ) and an average cost per gallon of $3.83 gal (per eia US Energy Information Administration 9/19/11 ).

According to the EPA’s Center for Environmental Studies the burning of 1 gallon of transportation grade diesel generates 9.95 kg (21.93lbs.) of CO2. If the average OTR Driver covers 120,000 miles annually and averages 9 mpg he consumes over 13,000 gallons of fuel and generates an annual carbon foot print of 146 tons of CO2. At a 6% savings the reduction would exceed 8 tons.
