When Independent owner operator Steve Nelson won a set of truck fairings from Kronos at a local trucking expo. He wasn't familiar with the technology. By the time he completed his first regular run, he was singing it's praises.
When Steve began his regular run from Laredo TX to Clinton, MA, he normally has to refuel in Massachuetts. When he called home, he couldn't wait to tell his wife he still had plenty of fuel in his tank.
Before installing the Kronos fairings, Steve's fuel costs for a 2170 mile run was $1536. With the Kronos fairings fuel costs were $1311 for the same run. A savings of $225
"You know what else," Nelson added, I'm carrying 40,000 pounds and the truck feels lighter. Plus it handles better in the wind."
Steve tracked cost comparisons on two other runs, first from Memphis, TN to Fort Worth, TX, and secondly from North Bergen, NJ to Memphis, TN. The mileage respectively is 485 miles and 1093 miles. On each load, the cost savings were again significant.. In fact when the combined mileage and fuel savings are added together, in one month, Steve saved $417.16 or 16% of overall fuel costs for these three runs.
Kronos fairings saved Steve 11 cents per mile based on diesel prices during that 4 week time frame. Overall, this first month's comparision based on 3748 miles saved him 16% on his fuel costs.
